There is nothing quite like a portrait to capture that moment in time, whether it is a child, a friend or a relative, it is the perfect way to preserve those memories. In today's world of instantly accessible photography there is still something special in having a sketched or painted portrait.
Portraiture need not be limited to family members, it is a great alternative to photography for capturing the character of a person for a magazine article, book jacket or CD cover. Its softness and interpretation adds a quality that is sometimes lost in photography.
